We promote education by modeling and hands-on experiences. We encourage students to take responsibility for their own learning and to take initiative in gaining knowledge and experience.
As a student, you鈥檒l receive guidance and tools to enhance the learning process. You may have the opportunity to observe the following:

About Us
The Department of Therapeutic Services at 91制片厂在线看 Children鈥檚 Hospital, Delaware includes assistive technology, audiology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, rehabilitation engineering and speech-language pathology.
Our department is multidisciplinary and managed as three programs aligned with the population served (rehab, acute and outpatient). 91制片厂在线看 Children鈥檚 Hospital, Delaware was established in 1935 under the will of Alfred I. duPont (grandson of the founder of the E.I. duPont de 91制片厂在线看 Chemical Company) for the 鈥渃are and treatment of crippled children, but not incurables.鈥
Today, under the auspices of the 91制片厂在线看 Foundation, we are a full-service children鈥檚 hospital that treats over 100,000 patients yearly. Originally founded as an orthopedic facility, we are now a 180-bed hospital that offers all the specialties of pediatric medicine, surgery and dentistry for both inpatients and outpatients.

Student Requirements: Therapeutic Services
The Therapeutic Services Department of 91制片厂在线看 Children鈥檚 Hospital, Delaware accepts students for clinical rotations in:
- Occupational therapy
- Physical therapy
- Speech-language pathology
Before proceeding, please verify with your academic institution that that they are an affiliated program and then follow the instructions below carefully. You鈥檒l need to gather a series of required screening and immunization documents and have your academic advisor certify that you have completed all steps outlined below.
Your fieldwork coordinator will receive a form to complete, sign and return to us to verify that you have obtained all required immunizations and clearances.

Things to Note:
- Allow at least 15 working days for results to be processed.
- The form must be submitted within 90 days of signature date in order to be processed.
Criminal Background Check
Instructions:
- Contact the state police in each state you鈥檝e lived in for the last 7 years. Results should go to your academic institution.
- This report must have been completed within 12 months of placement.

Note: During flu season, students without proof of flu vaccination will be required to wear a mask when in patient areas.
Student Responsibilities
Identification
You will receive a photo ID taken the first day and are required to wear it at all times. You are required to return your badge to your supervisor on your last day.
Required Web-Based Training (WBT)
Students will receive an email from the clinical supervisor at 91制片厂在线看 approximately one week prior to affiliation. It will include a link for access to 91制片厂在线看 University, network login, temporary password, the courses required to complete and any additional information needed. The student should contact the clinical supervisor at 91制片厂在线看 via email if unable to access 91制片厂在线看 University.
Documentation Guidelines
The 91制片厂在线看 Children鈥檚 Hospital, Delaware clinical staff use an electronic medical charting system to document each patient encounter. Students will be expected to complete both computer-based learning and instructor-led training once on-site to be knowledgeable on the system. Your clinical instructor will review the expectation for timely documentation of evaluations and progress notes. The clinical instructor must co-sign all notes in the electronic medical records.
Internet & Social Media Use
Use of the internet during work hours is specifically for educationally relevant and work-related tasks. No form of social media should be used during the workday. This includes but is not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, YouTube, Instagram and Tumblr. Personal cell phone use, including text messaging, during the work day is discouraged. To maintain confidentiality, no written or photographic information concerning a student鈥檚 affiliation at this facility will be shared on any social media.
Student Presentation
Students will be required to complete one in-depth presentation. Your topic may relate to theory, an administrative need, creation of a piece of equipment or a research project.
The project could take a variety of forms, including a research proposal, developing a new form, a book critique or protocol. A written outline is required at midterm and must be discussed with the clinical supervisor and your clinical instructor.
The completed assignment (including handouts, video, reference/bibliography) must be submitted to the clinical instructor for review 1-2 weeks prior to your presentation to staff, which is usually scheduled during the last 2 weeks of the affiliation.

Additional Information
Transportation and Parking
A vehicle is recommended, since limited bus service is available in this area. Wilmington Bus DART Route 28 goes from the city train to the hospital on a schedule. Students parking on the hospital grounds must register their vehicle with Security and park in the employee parking garage, not in areas reserved for visitors or patients. Parking is free.
Housing
Housing is not available on campus. Some students have been able to sublet apartments from students at the University of Delaware.
Meals
Meals are available in the hospital cafeteria and coffee kiosks during specified hours of operation, and vending machine options are available.
Hours of Operation
Therapeutic services is open: Monday鈥揊riday, 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
There are limited treatments on Saturdays and Sundays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for acute postsurgical and rehab patients. An individual schedule of approximately 40 hours per week will be established with your clinical instructor. Flexible scheduling is necessary due to the demands of the patient population. Staff rotate working Saturday/Sundays and students will work 1-2 Saturdays/Sundays during their affiliation at the discretion of your clinical instructor.
Supervision
Each student will be assigned a clinical instructor who will be available to you throughout your affiliation. Supervision will be close at first and will lessen according to your needs, but will always be at least line-of-sight. Any questions or concerns with patient treatment, scheduling, in-services, etc., should be directed to your clinical instructor. Performance reports are delivered at mid-term and at the end of your affiliation. Verbal and/or written feedback is provided daily or as needed. The student will meet with the education coordinator prior to mid-term to provide the student the opportunity to discuss progression of fieldwork and express any concerns.
Absences
One (1) excused absence per month is allowed for illness or interviews 鈥 based on discipline and school requirements. Excessive time off must be made up before the completion of the affiliation. In the event of illness, contact your clinical instructor by 7:30 a.m. by calling the department at (302) 651-4354 or as your clinical instructor directs.
Dress
Students are to wear neat, clean, casual street clothes that are still professional. Sneakers (clean) are permitted and shoes must be close-toed (no sandals) for safety and must be worn with hosiery. No blue denim jeans, mini-skirts, shorts, capri pants, sleeveless shirts, midriff tops or t-shirts are allowed. A swimsuit will permit participation in our aquatics program, and may be required based on the discipline and clinical instructor.
No dangle earrings, bracelets, or necklaces should be worn. Nails should be short and should not have colored polish. Tattoos need to be covered. Piercings other than in the ear lobe are not to have jewelry. No skin should be exposed when bending, stooping and reaching.
