Baby Talk

Long before she can speak clearly, your baby can understand and make sense of what you are saying by listening to the tone of your voice and observing your facial expressions. As soon as your baby begins to 鈥渃oo,鈥 you can respond to these early attempts at communication by 鈥渃ooing鈥 right back. These back-and-forth baby talk conversations let your infant know that what she has to say is important to you!聽

Step 1:聽Pay attention to the various sounds your baby makes (cooing, gurgling, vocalizing).聽
Step 2:聽The next time your child vocalizes, give her your attention by leaning in close and making eye contact. For every sound (or even gesture) that your child makes, imitate it.聽
Step 3:聽Wait for your baby to continue the 鈥渃onversation鈥 by making another vocalization.聽
Step 4:聽Continue talking with your baby in this way for a few minutes, or until she loses interest (looks away, turns head, becomes fussy).聽
