Phonological Awareness
Say the names of the animals slowly as you tap two wooden spoons to create a jungle rhythm. Tap one beat for each syllable. You might say:
鈥淟et鈥檚 say the names of the animals while I tap with these jungle sticks.鈥
鈥淛az 鈥 zy, Jaz 鈥 zy鈥 (tap two times each time you say the name)
Jo 鈥 Jo, Jo 鈥 Jo
Ant 鈥 ea 鈥 ter, ant 鈥 ea 鈥 ter鈥 (tap three times each time you name the animal)
鈥淐ro 鈥 co 鈥 dile, cro 鈥 co 鈥 dile.鈥澛 聽
Continue with other animal names. You might change places and give your child the jungle sticks to tap as you both say the animal names.听
Beginning Writing
Give your child dark green paper and some bright colored crayons to draw his version of a jungle picture. Talk to him as he draws, describing what you see him doing. Remember, the end result may just be scribbles on the page, but the process and experience deserve praise and acknowledgement!聽 聽 聽 聽 聽
